‘Intern Queen’ Lauren Berger gives talk at CSULB

Lauren Berger, CEO of the website Intern Queen, spoke at the “Land That Job” seminar hosted by Associated Students, Inc. Beach Pride on Thursday in the Cal State Long Beach University Student Union ballrooms.

Founded in 2009, Intern Queen is a website that provides and directs young people to acquire their dream jobs and internships in their respective fields. She gives lectures, and is also a self-proclaimed internship expert with years of experience in career guidance.

The seminar was organized for students looking to get their hands on landing jobs and internships.

“I want you guys to walk out of here with a workbook in hand and a plan ready to go,” Berger said.

Approximately 45 people, mostly students, showed up at the seminar. Berger, who was also the keynote speaker, shared her personal experiences of getting jobs and gave tips to students.

“When you don’t know what to do, and your road is blocked, figure it out,” Berger said.

There was also a Q&A session for students that was accompanied by a workshop where they got to work with Berger one-on-one.

“I believe that this event here is influential and prepares students for the future, and the major point of this event is to follow up and connect with people,” said Alan Garcia, an alumnus from 2016.

During her speech, Berger talked about the importance of getting internships as a path to a good job. She shared her journey of getting her dream job through an internship and offered students advice in the way of interview follow-ups, building a social media presence and taking rejection in stride.

“I liked [seminar]; it’s really insightful and knowledgeable,” said James Kim, a senior accounting major. “It taught me many things I didn’t know. I recommend freshmen to come here and acquire knowledge.”
