The Beach women’s basketball team is scheduled to kick off a three-game homestand tonight against Cal State Northridge at the Walter Pyramid.
Tip-off time for the game against the Matadors is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The 49ers (5-17, 2-8 Big West Conference) fell to CSUN, 88-84, in an overtime game back on Jan. 17 at the Matadome. LBSU had a 17-point lead at the half, but a second-half surge allowed CSUN to send the game into overtime, where the Matadors would pull away.
Senior Whitney Ligon leads the Matadors (5-16, 2-6 Big West) with 12.4 points per game, while freshman Jasmine Erving is second at 9.6 PPG and 5.8 rebounds.
The ‘Niners are currently tied with UC Irvine for eighth in the Big West standings, and are two games behind CSUN in the loss column. A win would help LBSU temporarily gain sole possession of the eighth spot that is needed to qualify for the conference tournament.
LBSU will take a break from conference play on Saturday when the ‘Niners host Division I independent Texas-Pan America in the schools’ first-ever meeting. The Broncos (12-11) will be playing in their first game since Jan. 31 when they pulled out a 55-49 win over Chicago State.
The Broncos are led by senior Teshay Winfrey, who holds top honors on the team with 11.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per contest.
The three-game home set concludes next Friday, Feb. 20 when the ‘Niners face UC Riverside (13-9, 9-1 Big West) at 7 p.m.
