Women’s Golf: Beach women finish 14 th at Bruin Wave Invitational

The 49ers recorded a 37-over par 325 on Wednesday’s final round to finish in 14th place in the Bruin Wave Invitational hosted by UCLA and Pepperdine.

LBSU carded a 308 in the opening round in the 18-team field at the Robinson Ranch Golf Club to finish 12th on Monday and recorded a 312 in the second round to tie for 13th.

USC claimed the team title with a two-under 866 as the No. 6 Trojans edged No. 2 Arizona State by two strokes and No. 1 UCLA by six strokes. Ninth-ranked Pepperdine finished in fourth with an 873.

Simone Hoey led the 49ers with a final round of 81 to finish in 50th with a 15-over 231. Hoey recorded eight bogeys for the day, with one double-bogey at the par-four 371 yard No. 6 hole. She had just one birdie for the round on Wednesday. Hoey committed just two bogeys in the second round as she tied for 30th and three bogeys in the first round.

Noelle Zavaleta finished second for The Beach with a 76 to improve by three strokes and tie for 57th with an 18-over 234. Zavaleta recorded a 79 in both first and second rounds.

Monica Villarreal and Brenda Chhuor shot a final round of 84 as Villarreal finished in 63rd with a 20-over 236 and Chhuor tied for 76th with a 28-over 244.

Reina Rogers shot an 88 as she tied for 89th with a 35-over 251.

Danielle Kang of Pepperdine claimed the individual title with an eight-under par 208, holding on to a three-shot lead over Jodi Ewart of New Mexico and four shots over Stephanie Kono of UCLA .

The 49ers next travel to San Jose for the Julie Inkster Spartan Invitational, March 8-9, hosted by San Jose State.
