Sweetman nabs weekly honor

Nicole Sweetman’s two goals on Sunday paid off as the Long Beach State women’s soccer team earned a win and the junior forward earned herself the Big West Conference Offensive Co-Player of the Week award on Monday.

Sweetman gave The Beach its second goal — which proved to be the game winner — in the 39th minute of a 4-1 victory over Akron on Sunday. She added her second goal in the 75th minute.

The goals were the first this season for the Oxnard native, who scored just one goal last season in 16 games for The Beach. Sweetman tied a team-high with four shots in the match against the Zips in only 15 minutes of action.

Sweetman shared the award with UC Irvine’s Tanya Taylor.

LBSU (6-3-1) hosts Arizona State this Friday at 4 p.m., before beginning Big West play Oct. 1 against Cal Poly.
