Heavy rain cancels men’s golf final round

The 49ers’ trip to Dallas was cut short by heavy rain and lightning, which cancelled the final round of the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate on Tuesday.

Sophomore Benjamin Lein led the Long Beach State men’s golf team by shooting a 1-over-par 143 to finish in a tie for 23rd place. The Beach finished in 12th place overall in the 12-team field with a team score of 22-over 590 through the first two rounds.

Iowa, which led after the tournament’s first two rounds, took home the team title after carding a 17-under 551. The Hawkeyes’ Vince India captured the individual crown with a 10-under 132 effort through the tournament’s two rounds.

LBSU’s Philip Chian was the team’s second-best finisher after carding a 7-over 149 to finish tied for 52nd. Raymond Ho and Kevin Lim both tied for 62nd place with 9-over 151 scores. Junior Austin Love rounded out the 49ers’ scores with a 10-over 152 to finish tied for 65th place.

The ‘Niners will return to the links for their last fall tournament when they head to San Martin, Calif., for the Gifford Collegiate Championship on Nov. 8.
