The Long Beach Convention Center will host the third annual Long Beach Comic and Horror Con on Oct. 29 and 30 in celebration of comic books, horror and the people behind the productions.
Events at the convention will mainly consist of Q&A panels, where fans can interact with the creative minds of the comic and film industries, educational panels for fans to learn how to start their own businesses or how to “break into the industry,” and movie screenings of horror films.
The Con also added a Masquerade Ball that will include a contest for Best Dressed costumes and a small film festival called Might and Fright, which will be showing short films.
Among the guests at the Con are “Robot Chicken” co-creators Seth Green and Matthew Senreich, “Iron Man 3” Director Shane Black, horror filmmaker John Carpenter, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” co-creator Kevin Eastman, members of the web-hosted show “The Guild,” and Barbara Kesel, a professional editor who will offer a portfolio review.
Numerous comic artists will also offer commissions and prints of their work in the Artist Alley.
Sophomore Cal State Long Beach student Jennifer Wu said, “I went to the [comic convention] in the spring and it was pretty nice. [Long Beach Comic Con] may be smaller than some other cons, but I think it’s more personalized that way and I like that I can actually spend a few minutes or even an hour just to get to know the people that make the comics I love.”
There will also be an exhibition hall, where attendees may purchase merchandise of their favorite works or related products.
Entertainment in the exhibition hall includes a light saber duel and a performance by a group called Dumbledore’s Army, based on the “Harry Potter” novels.
Tickets to the Long Beach Comic Con are $20 per day for students, and can be purchased online at shop.longbeachcomiccon.com. The event begins at 10 a.m. both days and ends at 7 p.m. Saturday and 5 p.m. Sunday.
