Los Angeles to Host 2026 Global Esports Games, FIFA Club World Cup, and Super Bowl 2026

Los Angeles is set to become the world’s most active sports and entertainment hub in 2026, hosting three major events in a single year. The Global Esports Federation (GEF) will open its 2026 Global Esports Games (GEG26) on December 4, 2026, bringing more than 115 nations and over 2,500 athletes to the city. Earlier in the year, Los Angeles will stage matches for the FIFA Club World Cup, and the Super Bowl 60 will be played at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.

The GEG26 opening ceremony is scheduled for December 4, 2026, and the event will run for several days in the Los Angeles area. The GEF, founded in 2019 and headquartered in Singapore, organizes the annual Global Esports Games, a multi‑title competition that has been held each December since 2021. In August 2025, the GEF board selected Los Angeles as the host city after a competitive process involving cities worldwide. The Los Angeles Times Media Group has been named the host partner, and Mayor Karen Bass has described the event as a “defining era” for the city.

The 2026 Global Esports Games will feature athletes from 115 member federations, with a total of more than 2,500 competitors and delegates. The GEF’s flagship event is designed to showcase esports as a global language that connects people across cultures, languages, and continents. The federation also runs the Global Esports Tour and supports local qualifiers. In addition to competition, the GEF plans to launch GEFx, a 24/7 digital platform that will link athletes, federations, publishers, and fans into a continuous global community.

Los Angeles is already on the calendar for other high‑profile sports events. The FIFA Club World Cup, which will be held in the United States in 2026, will feature matches in Los Angeles as part of the expanded 32‑team format that began in 2025. The tournament, organized by FIFA, brings together club champions from each continent and the host nation’s top club.

The city will also host Super Bowl 60, scheduled for February 8, 2026, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. The Super Bowl is the National Football League’s championship game and one of the most watched television events worldwide. The 2026 edition will feature the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots.

Los Angeles has a long history of hosting large international events. The city hosted the Summer Olympics in 1932 and 1984 and will host the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The 2026 events add to the city’s portfolio of global sporting and cultural showcases.

The convergence of esports, football, and American football in Los Angeles highlights the city’s role as a center for technology, entertainment, and innovation. The GEF’s emphasis on digital connectivity aligns with Los Angeles’ status as a hub for film, music, and emerging tech industries.

California’s economy, which had a gross metropolitan product of over $1.295 trillion in 2024, benefits from the influx of visitors and media attention associated with these events. The events are expected to generate significant tourism revenue and create temporary employment opportunities.

The GEF’s announcement, the Mayor’s remarks, and the official partnership with the Los Angeles Times Media Group confirm that Los Angeles will be the focal point for esports, football, and American football in 2026. The city’s infrastructure, cultural diversity, and technological ecosystem position it well to host a truly global sporting experience.

As the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary of independence, Los Angeles is poised to showcase how technology and culture can unite people worldwide. The city’s hosting of the 2026 Global Esports Games, FIFA Club World Cup matches, and Super Bowl 60 underscores its growing influence on the global stage.

The next steps for the GEF include finalizing event venues, confirming participating federations, and launching the GEFx platform. The city’s planning departments are coordinating with the Los Angeles Times Media Group to ensure that infrastructure and logistics support the influx of international visitors.

The 2026 calendar marks a significant milestone for Los Angeles and California, reinforcing the state’s position as a leader in sports, technology, and cultural exchange.
