Man arrested for public intoxication at CBA

A man was arrested for public intoxication in the lawn north of the College of Business Administration on Sept. 26 around 6:40 p.m., according to University Police Lt. Richard Goodwin.

Michael Morales, 22, was transported by University Police to the Long Beach City Jail, Goodwin said.

Jeane Caveness, assistant dean of students, who reported the incident, said via email that it seemed odd to see Morales lying “sprawled” on the lawn at that time. She said that she had tried to wake him and ask how he was but he did not respond.

When apprehended, officers found Morales, who is not a student, with a 21-year-old female’s identification card, Goodwin said.

Attempted burglary at Academic Services building

University Police responded to a burglary report at the Academic Services building on Friday at 10:12 a.m., Goodwin said. He said that the student who reported the incident said it looked like someone tried using a crow bar to force open the door to Room 379.  Goodwin said, however, that there was no missing property.

Smell of burning smoke near Dance Center           

A fire was reported in the Dance Center on Sept. 26 at 4:46 p.m., according to Goodwin. Goodwin said there was a smell of smoke near the center.

Goodwin said once police arrived, they determined there was no actual fire and that there were no injuries or damages.

Goodwin said that the smoke may have come from a fire handled by the Los Angeles County near Long Beach.

Woman threatening to harm self taken to hospital

University Police responded to a mental disturbance report of a woman showing behavior that implied that she wanted to hurt herself at Brotman Hall on Sept. 26 at 12:51 p. m., Goodwin said.

After police made contact with the woman, Goodwin said that she wanted to go a hospital.  The woman said that she did not want to hurt herself nor anyone else, Goodwin said.  She was then taken to the Pacific Hospital of Long Beach, he said.

Students reported on roof of Liberal Arts building 1

A Community Service Officer reported that four or five male students were on the roof of Liberal Arts building 1 on Friday at 8:47 p. m. Officers did not know what they were doing on the roof but they were warned and advised to get off the roof, Goodwin said.

Three bicycles stolen at once

Three bicycles where reported stolen from the bicycle rack at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center on Sept. 26 at 10:05 p.m., Goodwin said.

According to Goodwin, all three bicycles were locked together with one chain.

The reporting party was advised by police to return with the bicycles’ serial numbers but have yet to return, Goodwin said.
