In the mood for food: Trader Joe’s affordable holiday items

TJS02

The turkey holiday may still be a few weeks away, but I’d like to go ahead and give thanks to Trader Joe’s.

I swept the specialty grocery’s aisles clean of its seasonal items simply because of its limited quality and affordability. Costco bulk, anyone?

For the starvinMarvins who haven’t developed a taste bud for pumpkin and sweet potato flavors, maybe the cognitive dissonance of low prices will make you consider the following products.

TJS

12 Sweet Potato Pie Bites at 89 cents (25 of 50 fat calories per serving)

Each piece contains a candied pecan and sweet potato, but the bite-size treat looks more like bacon and cheese. I wish it were the latter!

Four Pumpkin Soufflés at 89 cents (50 of 110 fat calories per serving)

The baked pudding and pumpkin pie filling combination tastes more like a bland crepe. It takes 25 minutes to heat, so it may not be as cost-effective with time as it is with your pocket.

Pumpkin Cream Cheese Spread at $2.99 (30 of 40 fat calories per tablespoon)

I’m afraid once the store no longer carries this product for the year, my stomach will experience its own Great Depression. Rationing the perishable spread isn’t the best idea because it expires within two months. Slab it on some multi-grain carbohydrates, and enjoy the dream cream while you can!
