Women in Saudi Arabia permitted to sell lingerie

It’s already awkward enough shopping for a bra or panties in the U.S. A perfect stranger measuring your boobs and seeing the underwear you picked out for your steamy weekend way with the boyfriend can be a blush-worthy scenario.

At least that you know that Victoria’s Secret employee assisting you in the dressing room will always be a girl, though.

In Saudi Arabia, women aren’t allowed to work in retail because it involves interaction with men. Thus, all lingerie stores are staffed entirely by men.

Of course, this would be mortifying to any female, regardless of her nationality.

Thankfully, King Abdullah’s Saudi Ministry of Labor finally figured out how horrible this situation is for Saudi women. He is enforcing a royal decree, which orders sales employees in shops that sell women’s products to be exclusively female.

As of last week, 28,000 women have applied for these jobs, according to the New York Times.

Women still aren’t allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia, so I’m not sure how they’re going to get to work. At least it’s one step closer in the right, or rather, left direction.
