Pedestrian killed in car accident near CSULB

A 47-year-old woman crossing Seventh Street near Campus Drive died on Thursday at about 9:30 p.m. after being hit by a car. Her identity has not been released because her family has not been notified.

According to a Long Beach Police Department press release, the woman was hit by a 25-year-old male from Long Beach who was driving a 2003 Honda Civic. He attempted to avoid the collision but was unsuccessful.

Seconds later, the Civic was rear-ended by a 39-year-old male from Mission Viejo driving a 2000 Ford Ranger. He could not stop in time to avoid the accident. This second collision caused the Civic to hit the victim a second time.

Long Beach Fire Department paramedics pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

Since the woman was crossing the street outside of a crosswalk, no charges have been filed against either driver.

Anyone with information regarding the collision is asked to contact Long Beach Police Accident Investigation Detective Brian Watt at 562-570-7355.
