Students ‘Take Back the Night’

Cal State Long Beach students will take back the night via a march on Thursday.

The Women’s Resource Center, a feminist organization called F.O.R.C.E. and the CSULB Clothesline Project Club will host the annual Take Back the Night event, which raises awareness about gender violence and sexual assault.

According to Assistant Dean of Students, Jeane Caveness, the primary focus of safety awareness has typically been directed towards women. One goal of the event is to empower men as well as women to take back the night against sexual assault and violence.

“We would like it to see men empowered and address safety issues with other men,” Caveness said.

The event will start with a Speaker’s Rally at Maxson Plaza at 7 p.m. At 8 p.m. there will be a march through the campus, followed by an InterACT performance skit entitled “Sexual Assault” at the Soroptimist House at 9 p.m. The Young Women’s Christian Association will follow the skit with a Speakout event at the Soroptimist House.
