U-Pass program suspended for summer

Cal State Long Beach’s joint U-Pass program with Long Beach Transit will take a summer hiatus and resume on Aug. 16, according to a recent press release.

Effective May 29 to Aug. 15 all CSULB identification card holders will have to pay the standard Long Beach Transit fee of $1.25 per ride. The U-Pass program will be re-instated from Aug. 16 to Dec. 23 for the fall semester and Jan. 24 to May 27 for the spring semester.

“It came down to budget concerns,” said Toni Beron, associate vice president of University Relations and Development.

According to Beron, the program’s highest usage occurs in the fall and spring semesters, which will not be affected. Beron also said that a representative from CSULB will be forwarding the press release in an e-mail to all CSULB students in the coming week.

No one from Long Beach Transit could be reached for comment.
