Celebrities to play softball at CSULB

Celebrities and professional athletes will suit up and play softball at the Long Beach State Softball Complex on Sunday at 2 p.m. during the 8th Annual Circle K Softball Challenge USA.

Proceeds from net ticket sales and a silent auction to be featured during the game will benefit City of Hope.

According to its website, City of Hope is “an independent biomedical research, treatment and education institution [and] a leader in the fight to conquered cancer, diabetes, HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening diseases.”

The first team are the professionals. It is lead by Matt Leinart of the Arizona Cardinals, who gathered athletes from local Southern California Pro-Teams. His team consists of former NBA player Cuttino Mobley, Anaheim Ducks player Bobby Ryan, fomer Raiders player Greg Townsend, LA Clippers players Bobby Brown and Kareem Rush, and AM 570 DJ Vic “The Brick” Jacobs.

The second team are the celebrities, led by Tae Bo creator in Billy Blanks. The celebrity team consist of: model/actor Rusty Joiner, “Dancing with the Stars” dancer Mark Ballas, actress Patrika Darbo, Nigel Thatch and Basil Wallace and AM 570 DJ Joe Grande.

In addition to the softball game, there will be other events through out the day, including an Albertson’s home run derby contest, a celebrity home run hitting contest, ticket contest drawings and a silent auction. The first 1,000 guests to enter will receive a free pack of the toy Crazy Bones.

Tickets can be purchased at SPPSports.com for $15. Children under six are free.
