Opponents of California’s Prop 8 will rally tonight

BRIEF – Opponents of California’s Proposition 8 will rally tonight at Bixby Park at Broadway and Junipero.

A federal judge today struck down the proposition, which was passed by voters in November 2008. The judge ruled the Proposition was unconstitutional, and does “nothing more than enshrine in the California Constitution the notion that opposite-sex couples are superior to same-sex couples,” as reported by the Los Angeles Times. His decision is expected to be appealed.

Bixby Park has previously been a site of gay pride events and rallies in opposition of Proposition 8.

Tonight’s rally begins at 6 p.m. and is being organized by The Center LB, Lambda Legal and the Human Rights campaign, among others.
