Former mayor to speak on campus

Former Long Beach Mayor Beverly O’Neill kicks off the start of the Notable Speaker Series Thursday.

After the success of the series’ first semester, the College of Business Administration has brought back the event as a way to connect students to successful professionals who share real world knowledge.

“The stories that students will hear during the speaker series events is going to enrich them and going to be an opportunity for them to be intellectually stimulated and informed,” development coordinator Alexandra Jordan said. “A university is a place of learning, knowledge and intellectual engagement; and that is what the speaker series is about.”

O’Neill, who was elected to three terms as mayor, will be speaking about her personal story of how she overcame early adversity to become a successful politician through teamwork and positivity. The former mayor will be joined by the executive editor of the Gazette, Harry Saltzgaver, who recently published a biography about O’Neill entitled “Passionately Positive: The Beverly O’Neill Story.”

All students, faculty and friends of the university are encouraged to attend the free event, which will be held at the CBA building, room 139A, at 7 p.m. There will be a book signing at the end of the event and an opportunity for attendees to meet and talk with both speakers.

Information about upcoming guests in the Notable Speaker Series can be found at csulb.edu/colleges/cba/nss.
