CSULB hosts free health care clinic and Maria Shriver

The Walter Pyramid at Cal State Long Beach was buzzing with activity as it hosted a free health care clinic.

Modern House Call for Women is an event headed by Maria Shriver, California’s first lady.

The clinic is geared toward women, offering free services such as dental, medical, eye exams, mammograms, immunizations, pap smears and several others.

While the event is catered toward women, men are accepted as well.

“We are not turning away men,” said Natalie Nevins, medical director of the event. “These patients need us, especially the uninsured, and we have something that we can offer to them.”

Shriver, whose husband is Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, made a short appearance at the event. She and her actor-turned-politico husband will hold a press conference at the Pyramid on Saturday at 11 a.m.

The event runs through Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Check back tomorrow for coverage of Shriver’s and Gov. Schwarzenegger’s visit to CSULB, including photos and video.
