Leonard Nimoy of ‘Star Trek’ cancels CSULB speech

A variety of celebrities visited Cal State Long Beach this past weekend. Arianna Huffington, Maria Shriver and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger each made appearances for various reasons.

One other celebrity who was supposed to visit CSULB was Leonard Nimoy, who is famous for playing Spock in the “Star Trek” series. Nimoy was scheduled to make an appearance at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center on Saturday, but had to cancel due to an emergency surgery for a minor abdominal condition.

According to the event’s website, Nimoy was supposed to speak about “his portrayal of the rational and emotionally suppressed Vulcan as part of a remarkable and diverse career that’s left an indelible imprint on American culture.”

Leonard Nimoy’s wife Susan Bay Nimoy extended her gratitude for everyone’s well wishes and said her husband is recovering beautifully.

The Carpenter Center is working on rescheduling the performance. Updates will be posted on the Leonard Nimoy page at CarpenterArts.org.
