Cal State Long Beach students were evacuated Tuesday after a hoaxed bomb threat.
Lecture Hall rooms 150 and 151 were evacuated around noon. Yellow tape and people in military fatigues blocked off an area near the Lecture Hall building.
The University Police activity log said there was a report of a bomb threat in the area of Lecture Hall, room 151. Nothing was found in the building, said Toni Beron, CSULB spokesperson.
“It was determined to be a hoax, and that’s pretty much the end of it,” Beron said. “There was a notice and I can’t be more specific than that there was a threat to the Lecture Hall building.”
Beron said that University Police responded to the call and thoroughly check the building. She said that no outside agencies were involved.
Kelley Voss was near the building when the incident occurred.
“There was lots of pointing in regard to setting up a perimeter,” said Voss, a junior marine biology major.
Beron wouldn’t say how CSULB received the hoaxed threat, saying that CSULB doesn’t release that information when the situation is under investigation. But she did ask for the CSULB community’s support in finding whoever was behind the hoax.
Beron said, “If anyone has information or knows who left the notice that there was a problem in the building, then they should go to University Police with that information.”
