CSU Board of Trustees ratifies agreement with student union

In an open session a little after noon, the Cal State University Board of Trustees unanimously ratified a collective bargaining agreement with United Auto Workers Local 4123, a union that represents academic student employees.

While ratification occurred in the open session, the board’s committee on collective bargaining met behind closed doors in a meeting that started at 11 a.m.

According to Vice Chancellor of Human Resources Gail Brooks, the contract will run until September 2013.

Bargaining between the CSU and Local 4123 started in April 2008, but broke down due to the union’s request for tuition fee waivers.

Following the release of a neutral fact finder’s report in late October, the CSU and Local 4123 tentatively agreed on a contract that would not grant these waivers.
