Associated Students Inc. is kicking off a toys for tots drive next week that benefits students as well as children.
The holiday drive will allow Cal State Long Beach students to make a $5 donation or a new toy donation of equal or greater value for a food voucher redeemable Dec. 6-8.
According to an ASI press release, students can redeem their food vouchers from the following places:
On Monday, the Nugget Pub and Grill will redeem vouchers from 7 a.m. to 10:55 a.m. with a breakfast burrito.
On Tuesday, the Outpost will redeem vouchers from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. for a 49er muffin.
On Wednesday, the on-campus YoGo! will redeem vouchers from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., where KBEACH will be hosting entertainment.
The drive is an annual event that is held during the holidays to promote philanthropy throughout the holiday season.
“It’s really about giving back during the holidays, to give to the children who don’t have an opportunity to receive toys,” said RoseAnn Knight, ASI commissioner of special events.
Proceeds from the event will go to Toys for Tots, an organization that uses the proceeds to give to children in need in the neighborhoods where donations are collected, Knight said.
According to the Toys for Tots website, each year it raises millions of dollars worth of toys or money donations.
