Star Trek’s Nimoy sets date for CSULB appearance

Film and television actor Leonard Nimoy will appear at Cal State Long Beach’s Carpenter Center on April 30 at 8 p.m. after previously postponing his appearance on Oct. 23 due to medical problems.

According to a press release, the event entitled “An evening with Leonard Nimoy” will feature Nimoy sharing “his portrayal of the rational and emotionally suppressed Vulcan as part of a remarkable and diverse career that’s left an indelible imprint on American culture.”

The event had to be canceled because Nimoy had an abdominal condition that required emergency surgery.

According to Michael Field, director of marketing at the Carpenter Center of Performing Arts, “He’s recovering great and appreciates the outpouring of support and well-wishes from fans.”

Following the postponement in October, an Internet and social media movement had fans wishing Nimoy a speedy recovery, making it evident that he has kept a cult-like following for the past 44 years, when the original “Star Trek” series debuted.

Still, there was a degree of uncertainty whether the event would be held.

“Very few people refunded their tickets [from October] and everyone wanted to wait and see,” Field said.

Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at CarpenterArts.org. Tickets are $65 for general admission and $60 for senior citizens.
