College Beat production to go online

The launch party for College Beat Productions’ official website will take place on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. after the bi-annual screening in the Beach Auditorium.

The website, collegebeattv.org, is the first time College Beat has had an official website during its 11 years at Cal State Long Beach.

College Beat adviser Parker Chalmers said the program began as a grass roots project, but became more formatted as time went on.

“We’ve been working hard for the past year to get the website up and running, and to make it the most appealing as possible for the students and the community,” Chalmers said. “Anyone can go to the website and see the work we’ve done in this past year. It’s a great way to find out what’s going on, on campus and in the Long Beach community.”

Associated Students Inc. communications coordinator Christina L. Esparza said College Beat has improved greatly over the years.

“All you have to do is look at a video now and look at a video from then — you can see a huge difference,” she said. “It’s not just an experiment anymore. It’s a bona-fide production company.”

The screening will showcase the work done this past semester by the students involved with College Beat, including advertisement campaigns and news, campus events, sports and entertainment broadcasts.

Executive Producer Loreani Guadalupe started working at College Beat as a sophomore, and is now a senior journalism major.

“I’ve gained a lot of hands-on experience,” she said. “I’ve been able to apply everything that I’ve learned in my journalism classes to real life experience. Now that I’m graduating, I have a little more confidence in the industry because of College Beat.”
