CSULB Chief of Police Stan Skipworth to retire

Chief of University Police Stan Skipworth has announced that he will retire at the end of the spring semester, according to a notice sent out by President F. King Alexander.

Skipworth has worked for the Cal State Long Beach University Police Department for 11 years, with the last three years at his current position as chief. He served as the sergeant for the California State University Fullerton Police Department for nine years before coming to CSULB.

Skipworth has also served on the Corona City Council since 2006 and became the mayor of Corona last November.

“Chief Skipworth has made an enormous contribution to campus, both in his initial role as lieutenant with the police department and later as chief,” Alexander said in the release. “Under Stan’s leadership, the University Police Department has been a full and eager participant in our campus community.”

Security Magazine ranked CSULB as the fifth safest university campus in the nation in 2008, and third safest in last year’s rankings.

“A more impressive recognition is hardly possible,” Alexander said. “Please join me in thanking Stan for his service, as well as congratulating him on a job well done.”

A search to select Skipworth’s replacement has already begun, with the goal to have a successor in place by the time he steps down.
