Activist Cornel West to speak in student union

Political activist and author Cornel West will speak at Cal State Long Beach today.

West, an author and prominent voice on race, gender and class, has taught and studied at universities like Harvard and Princeton. His liberal views have earned him some controversy.

“For political science students, they’ll want to see him because he has a lot of controversy as well as a lot of good contributions in politics, and he has a lot to say about it,” said Ebonee Carter, junior biochemistry major and spokesperson for the University Student Union program council. “His books are extremely good and popular and on the best-sellers list. If you follow politics, then you’ll know about him.”

West will speak in the student union ballrooms at 12:30 p.m. The speech will also be broadcast on KBEACH radio through the University Student Union, and online at kbeach.org.
