ASI to begin accepting grant applications

Associated Students Inc. Treasurer Jameson Nyeholt reported at a senate meeting Wednesday that ASI spring grant allocations for the 2011 semester will be available beginning Feb. 22.

Student organizations can meet with Nyeholt personally to apply for grants from ASI.

All applications are due no later than April 11.

April 19 marks the start of grant allocations, and final award amounts will be determined on May 3.

Nyeholt is scheduled to meet with ASI Senator Michael Quibuyen and Assistant Director of Student Life and Development Brett Waterfield to discuss methods ASI can use to make the grant application process easier. ASI’s current year unallocated fund still holds $20,180.

Nyeholt’s report also mentioned a possible motion to change the name of the Board of Control to the “more inviting” title of Board of Administration.

“It has often been said that the name of the Board of Control sounds ‘scary’,” Nyeholt said.

According to ASI Executive Director Richard Haller, the ASI Senate would need to pass a motion to put it on the ballot in order to advocate the name change.

“It’s worth a try,” Haller said.
