Women’s Resource Center makes Valentine’s Day cards for shelters

The Women’s Resource Center is hosting Heart-Art, a weeklong event for students who wish to send their heart out in the form of a card.

The center will provide craft stations and supplies until Feb. 11 for anyone interested in making Valentine’s Day cards and sharing positive messages to their loved ones and those in need.

“Heart-Art is about reflecting on the people you care about — who make a difference in your life — and making a card to tell them how you feel,” Women’s Resource Center assistant director Lynne Coenen said. “It’s also an opportunity to share your good, positive feelings with others, particularly those who may be questioning their love-factors in their lives.”

A portion of the cards will be specially delivered on Feb. 14 to women and children in local shelters, including the Interval House, Su Casa and WomenShelter of Long Beach.

“The event isn’t an annual thing, but [the Interval House] has always been thrilled and excited with these engaging partnerships with the WRC, and their wonderful activities for students and the community,” director of programs Sharon Wie said.

Some participants said the event will be a positive and great opportunity.

“Heart-Art is a fantastic idea,” junior healthcare administration major Dayana Lonh said. “Students can make something heart-felt for their loved ones or give them to women and children in shelters, which only sends out positivity.”

Students are welcome to come and create hearts at the WRC in Liberal Arts, Building 3, Room 105.
