University checks forged; theft, vandalism continue

Student has cellphone taken

A man had his T-Mobile G2 cellphone stolen from his backpack in the Engineering Computer Sciences building, Room 406 on April 21 between 2:45-3 p.m., Solorzano said.

The man reportedly left his backpack in the room to go to the restroom, Solorzano said. When he returned, he picked up his backpack and left. Shortly after, the man looked through his backpack to use his cellphone and discovered that it had been taken. The estimated loss of value is $500.

 

University checks being forged

University Police received information between April 18-21 that unknown suspects were fraudulently trying to cash checks from Cal State Long Beach, according to Police Capt. Fernando Solorzano.

So far, a total of 10 fraudulent checks have been discovered, Solorzano said. The forgery was caught on time and CSULB has not lost any money.

 

Student has motorcycle stolen

A man had his white and grey Yamaha R-6 motorcycle stolen from the motorcycle parking spots in Parking Lot 3 on May 5 between 10:55 a.m.-6:30 p.m., Solorzano said.

The man left his bike locked during the time it was stolen. 

The estimated loss of value is $12,000. 

 

Bike thefts continue

Two bike thefts occurred in less than 24 hours, Solorzano said.

A man had his grey Trek bike stolen from the Parkside Commons P building bike racks on April 21 between 8:30 p.m. and 10:45 a.m. the following day, Solorzano said.

The man had his bike secured using a cable lock. The estimated loss of value is $150.

Another man had his black E-Z 01 motorized cruizer stolen from the Language Arts 2 building bike racks on April 22 between 8:10-8:50 a.m., Solorzano said. 

The bike, which the man had owned for only 2 weeks, was secured with a cable lock. The estimated loss of value is $575.

 

Attempted burglary to faculty offices

An attempted burglary occurred in five faculty offices in the Academic Services building on May 2 between 6:55-8:45 p.m., Solorzano said.

Faculty members reported that the doors to all five offices were damaged, but nothing had been stolen, Solorzano said. University Police have increased their patrols around the Academic Services building since the attempted burglary.

 

Faculty member has wallet and credit card stolen

A woman had her wallet and credit card stolen from the Engineering Technology building, Room 246 on April 28 between 6-6:10 p.m., Solorzano said.

The woman had left the door to her office open briefly while she was not there. When she returned, she noticed that her wallet was stolen.

Shortly after, the woman received a text message that there was fraudulent activity on her Discover credit card at a Rite Aid in Long Beach. 

 

Student’s car vandalized

A woman had a tire on her 2007 blue Honda Accord slashed on April 21 between 6:30-9 p.m. in Parking Lot 6, Solorzano said.

The woman reported that her ex-boyfriend slashed the tire, Solorzano said. The estimated loss of value is $100.

 

Professor and student argue

A professor and a student had a verbal argument on April 21 at 5 p.m. in the College of Business Administration, Room 214, Solorzano said. 

The student was reportedly yelling at his professor, claiming that he was unaware that there was an exam that day, Solorzano said. The professor felt threatened by the student and called University Police to report the argument.
