Property stolen from K-Beach

A student reported his laptop stolen at about 7 p.m. on Feb. 28, University Police Capt. Scott Brown said. The student had left his laptop inside the K-Beach radio station on the first floor of the University Student Union as he stepped out to use the bathroom. When the student returned, he saw a suspect running away with his MacBook Pro, Brown said.

The suspect is described as an 18- to 20-year-old black man, approximately 6 feet tall and 190 pounds with black hair, Brown said. The suspect was wearing a gray USC hoodie, dark blue sweatpants and white shoes, Brown said.

Although the K-Beach radio station door is usually locked and access is restricted to other students, it is possible that the door was propped open, Brown said. The total estimated loss is valued at $2,000.

University Student Union vandalized

The exterior of the USU was vandalized with signs glued to the walls near the USU Games Center and Coffee Bean on Feb. 27, Brown said.

The yellow signs had the words “People’s State of the City” in black font with a Long Beach “LB” logo beneath it. The flyers were posted to advertise a community event on Feb. 29 at Antioch Church, Brown said.

Although there are no suspects, University Police will be investigating the case since the glue caused about $500 of damage.

Painted vandalism

The letters “MHB” were found painted on part of a wall and door of the Education 1 building on Feb. 23, Brown said.

Campus police have no clues as to what the letters may stand for. The damage costs include labor costs to remove the vandalism, though the total is unknown, Brown said.

Suspicious activity in Hall of Science

A report was taken on Feb. 24 at about 10:30 a.m. for suspicious activity in Room 272 of the Hall of Science, Brown said.

A faculty member noticed that someone had been in his office, used his computer and moved furniture, Brown said. University Police will investigate further if the suspicious activity continues.

Computer lab equipment stolen

Two Mac keyboards and a three-button mouse were taken from the Liberal Arts 5 computer lab on Feb. 27 between 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., Brown said.

The computer lab was open for student use when the items were taken. There are currently no suspects and the estimated loss is valued at $100, Brown said.

Petty theft in the men’s locker room

A student reported his belongings stolen from the men’s locker room in the Student Recreation and Wellness Center on Feb. 28 between 12 p.m. and 3:15 p.m., Brown said.

The locker was not damaged, which led University Police to believe that the suspect may have watched the student enter his passcode and waited until the owner left, Brown said.

The stolen items include clothing, various exercise equipment and an iPod totaling about $1,000, Brown said.

Missing MacBook Pro

A student reported her laptop missing on Feb. 29 between 12 p.m. and 3:45 p.m., Brown said.

The student realized her laptop was not in her backpack and retraced her steps, but was unable to locate her MacBook Pro. The total estimated lost is $1,500, Brown said.

Laptop taken from business class

A student reported his laptop taken from a classroom in the College of Business Administration building on Feb. 24, Brown said.

The student had accidentally left the Acer laptop in his class on Feb. 23 between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. and, when he returned at 12 p.m. the next day, it was gone. Total estimated loss is $300, Brown said.

Stolen laptop

A student told University Police about his stolen laptop on Feb. 29 at about 2:30 p.m., Brown said. He had left his laptop in Peterson Hall 1 and wanted to inform University Police that it was missing, but did not want to file a report.
