Pop band Hellogoodbye to perform in USU

Pop band Hellogoodbye is scheduled to perform a free show for 600 Cal State Long Beach students at the University Student Union on May 9.

The Associated Students Inc. entertainment commission is hosting the show. Free tickets became available last week, and sold out within two days of being announced.

The last “big” show at CSULB was in 2008 featuring Ludacris, but the concert was held in the Walter Pyramid.

“It’s not the same as the Ludacris concert – we’re trying to establish culture, and have more mid-size concerts,” said Keya Allen-Littleton, program coordinator. “Mid-size meaning that we can still fit it in the student union.”

Allen-Littleton said she’d like for Hellogoodbye to open the door for other artists to start performing at CSULB.

“We can create a culture of other artists wanting to come – this is really the pilot for many more to come hopefully,” Allen-Littleton said.

Gabbie Alvidrez, a junior journalism and public relations major, said she is glad that CSULB is joining other schools in providing free concerts for students.

“I know Cal State Fullerton does that every year and they have like different rap stars who come, so hopefully we can find some cooler people to keep up with the competition,” Alvidrez said.

For the most part, students seem to be reacting positively to the show.

“I think it’s awesome because we live in L.A., where there’s all these shows we can go to,” junior psychology major Anthony Vander-Schaaf said.
