President F. King Alexander wins “President of the Year”

Cal State Long Beach President F. King Alexander was named Cal State University “President of the Year” by the California State Student Association at a CSU Board of Trustees meeting Wednesday morning.

The “Robert C. Maxson President of the Year Award” is given out every year to the campus president who is most committed to the CSSA’s mission. Alexander, who also won the award in 2010, fit the bill for the second time in three years.

CSSA is an association that represents the students in the CSU system. The goal of CSSA is to protect and serve the 425,000 students in the CSU system.

Alexander has been working with CSSA’s executive director, Miles Nevin, in Washington, D.C. and Sacramento to stop big banks from profiting off of student loan defaults and to protect Pell Grants.

Ten nominees were considered for the award, but ultimately Alexander won.

“It’s humbling, and I can’t think of a better award to win, because it is an award given by students across the 23 CSU campuses,” Alexander said. “I am honored, but there are also so many good CSU presidents that are well deserving, and I don’t know how they picked.”
