Student gets hit by car on East State University Drive Monday

A car backed into Cal State Long Beach America language studies major Noura Al-Balushi at the parking meters on East State University Drive at noon on Monday.

“He [the driver] drove really fast,” Al-Balushi said. “He tried to reverse to park, then he hurt my leg.”

According to the driver of the car, Al-Balushi was crossing the street where no pedestrian crosswalk was designated.

Although she was able to walk away from the incident, Al-Balushi said she was shaken up. According to University Police, Al-Balushi visited the Student Health Services after the incident.

The incident brought a trio of University Police cars, a Long Beach fire truck and traffic control to the scene of the incident between the Social Sciences and Public Administration and Foundation buildings, which congested traffic on the street.

The driver said he saw Al-Balushi in his car’s rear-view mirror, but it was too late before he could prevent hitting her. The driver, who refused to give his name, was driving a green Ford-Ranger with a hitch and bike rack attached.

The driver’s wife said she has been working at the Foundation building for 15 years.
