Anime fan overcame D-49er shyness

It’s hard to write my senior goodbye, mostly because this really isn’t goodbye. I’m still living in Torrance, California. I’m sticking around to help out the diversions staff this summer as well.

With that said, though, I really loved writing for my friends Colleen, Tiffany, Joanne, Duke, Ann, Jonathan and Chay.

I was really shy when I came in here two years ago; maybe more nervous than shy, but I always tried my hardest to report with as much objectivity as possible. And I wrote out strong opinion articles when I knew I couldn’t report with objectivity.

No matter what, I did it all for my friends on the Daily Forty-Niner, who helped me every step of the way, even when I was overstressed.

As far as I know, I think I held a good example for my editors, and especially my diversions editors who really needed me this semester.

I apologize to all the bands who thought my album reviews were way too critical. I’m sorry, but somebody needed to know how much they had to improve.

I still think that anime is the most creative form of entertainment ever made. Even if my favorite anime magazine stopped published at the end of my college career, I am certain that anime will stay popular for a long time. After all, director Mamoru Oshii still has to make one more sequel to “Ghost in the Shell,” just for me.

Finally, as a message for future journalism students, never give up! Sure, the print business is going downhill, but look for other mediums through which to communicate the news from. After all, National Public Radio and Public Radio International are still alive and kicking. And the online news community is starting its big boom.

In case anyone still misses my writing, visit my anime blog. It’s still around at csulbanime.blogspot.com, even though I will probably change the name sometime soon. I’ll continue writing in the Los Angeles area, so this isn’t goodbye. This is a new beginning.
