An unexpected trip to California resulted in my being able to visit The Beach after an absence of many years. I enjoyed walking around the familiar campus, and marveled at the new building additions since my tenure as a student. I picked up a copy of the Daily 49er (February 16), and enjoyed reading the articles. However, Kylee Delgadillo’s article on orgasm threw a wet blanket on an otherwise enjoyable perusal. I realize the 49er is a public forum for student expression, but Ms. Delgadillo’s article lacked substance, professionalism and taste. It seemed more like “party talk” as she cited interview results of students’ sexual experiences.
Pornography is one of the most degrading crimes against women and children, yet it was discussed as simply one of many forms of “recreation” or “fulfillment.” The discussion served to devalue the act of sex in its proper context. Sex can be a thing of beauty, within the right boundaries i.e. when husband and wife seek to fulfill the other’s pleasure above their own.
I trust Ms. Delgadillo will find issues of greater substance to discuss with her fellow students in the future. Other than this particular article, I found the paper a nostalgic and enjoyable read.
