Dirtbag pitchers earn Big West honors

Big West All-Conference Awards

Juniors Adam Wilk and Charlie Ruiz captured All-Big West honors as announced by the conference office.

Wilk tabbed second-team recognition as a starting pitcher after registering a 7-4 record with a 2.78 ERA this past season. The lefty led the Dirtbags in strikeouts (56) and innings pitched (94).

Classmate Charlie Ruiz bagged honorable mention for closers after leading Long Beach State with 11 saves. The San Leandro-native fanned 42 batters, while pitching in 25 innings.

UC Irvine captured three major individual awards as shortstop Ben Orloff nabbed Big West Player of the Year honors and Daniel Bibona took the conference’s Pitcher of the Year award. UCI head coach Mike Gillespie won Coach of the Year.

Cal Poly’s Matt Jensen was announced Big West Freshman Player of the Year, while Cal State Fullerton’s Tyler Pill and Noe Ramirez split Co-Freshman Pitcher of the Year honors.
