Longoria named to All-Star team

Tampa Bay Rays third baseman and former Long Beach State player Evan Longoria was named the American League’s starter at third base for the 2009 MLB All-Star Game.

Longoria became the second LBSU player to receive a starting nod at the mid-summer classic, joining 2000 AL Most Valuable Player and five-time all-star Jason Giambi. He was named to the team as a reserve last season and won the AL Rookie of the Year in 2008.

Longoria is batting .293 with 16 home runs to go along with 63 RBIs on the season. The All-Star Game will be televised on FOX, Tuesday July 14th from St. Louis.
