Baseball: LBSU takes series against No. 21 Wichita State

Joey Terdoslavich went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Branden Pinder earned his first win of the season as Long Beach State defeated No. 21 Wichita State, 7-3, on Sunday to grab the series victory.

Devin Lohman added a pair of doubles and scored two runs for The Beach (7-7). Pinder (1-3) earned his first win of the year, allowing one run over seven innings while striking out three.

In the first inning, Lohman hit the first of his two doubles, scoring Brennan Metzger, and Terdoslavich followed with an RBI-single to put the Dirtbags ahead, 2-0.

Wichita State (10-3) cut the lead to one on an RBI-single from Ryan Jones in the fourth inning, but the Dirtbags answered with an unearned run in the bottom half of the inning to maintain a two-run lead.

The big inning for LBSU came in the fifth when Pinder worked through a jam after surrendering a leadoff double to hold Wichita State scoreless.

The Dirtbags broke the game open in the bottom half of the inning.

Catcher Kellen Hoime drew a leadoff walk, and back-to-back singles from Metzger and Derek Legg got The Beach on the board in the frame. Terdoslavich doubled to score both runners, and came home after an error by Tyler Grimes extended the inning and tallied the fourth run to make the score, 7-1.

Brett Bascue had a solo homer in the eighth, and the Shockers scored one additional run in the ninth.

The Dirtbags take to the road for the next four games, facing Loyola Marymount on Tuesday at 3 p.m. before playing UNLV for a three-game set beginning Friday.
