Box score

Long Beach State (14-16, 3-4 Big West Conference) scored five runs over the last two innings to tie the game, but UC Riverside scored one more in the bottom of the ninth to win 8-7 Friday night.

Kirk Singer was 5-for-5 with a double, two RBIs, two runs scored and a stolen base to lead the Dirtbags.

UCR scored in the bottom of the ninth to grab the win as Joey Gonzales hit a leadoff triple, and after a pair of intentional walks to set up a force play, Justin Shults lined a ball to the outfield to end the game as the Dirtbags lost their second walkoff game of the year.

Down 7-4, Jordan Casas picked up the first of four LBSU hits in the ninth inning that helped the Dirtbags climb all the way back. Casas stole second base, and then with two outs, Tre Dennis singled to bring home the first run, followed by doubles from Singer and Devin Lohman to tie the game at 7-7.

The Beach returns to the Riverside Sports Complex Saturday for the second of three games with UCR. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Women’s Tennis: 49ers drop second straight nonconference match

Long Beach State took the doubles point to grab a 1-0 lead, but a loss in the final singles match gave No. 47 Pepperdine a 4-3 win.

No. 40 LBSU (16-5) got the doubles point with a pair of doubles in the bottom side, as Jaklin Alawi and Rachel Manasse beat Arianna Colffer and Ali Walters 8-1, playing at No. 2 and Sarah Cantlay and Julie Luzar won a No. 3 over Andrea Oates and Tania Rice 8-6.

In singles, Pepperdine took three matches as Colffer held form at No. 1 in defeating Alawi 6-3, 6-1, and the Waves also won at No. 3 and No. 5 singles. Cantlay picked up the 49ers’ first win in singles at No. 6 over Rice, winning 6-1, 6-4, and Anais Dallara held on after winning the first set tiebreaker against Anamika Bhargava 7-6, 5-7, 6-2 at No. 2.

That set up a clinching match at No. 5 singles, as Anna Jeczmionka won 7-6 in a tiebreaker, before falling, 7-5, in the second set. She dropped a close third set, 6-4, as the Waves picked up the home win.

LBSU finishes the regular season tomorrow morning as it hosts Loyola Marymount at 11 a.m. at the Rhodes Tennis Center.
