Baseball: Dirtbags swept by Matadors to drop 6th straight contest
Long Beach State (22-29, 7-14 Big West Conference) fell behind early, 7-0, and could not overcome the deficit as the Dirtbags eventually fell, 10-8, in their series finale to Cal State Northridge at Matador Field.
The setback stretched the Dirtbags’ losing streak to six games as they were swept for the second consecutive three-game series.
Junior Jonathan Jones went 4-for-5 with a double and a home run to pace LBSU’s offense. Senior Tre Dennis led the team with three RBIs.
The Matadors (28-23, 9-12 Big West) were led by C.J. Belanger’s 3-for-5 day at the plate, as he clubbed a home run and drove in three to lead CSUN.
Eddie Magallon (1-2) was charged with the loss for LBSU after allowing seven earned runs on nine hits in just 3 2/3 innings of work. Magallon struck out five and walked one batter. Paul Tremlin (7-6) collected the win for the Matadors.
Long Beach was routed 11-2 on Saturday after surrendering a 3-2 decision in 11 innings on Friday in the series opener.
The Beach hosts Pepperdine in a nonconference contest on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. The team finishes off its season with a three-game series at Blair Field against UC Irvine starting on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
