LBSU softball to host open tryout

The Long Beach State softball team is conducting open tryouts next week for any female students interested in playing for The Beach.

“We hold open tryouts every year,” assistant coach Stephanie Swenson said. “Usually we take one or two walk-ons but last year we didn’t take any. This year we could take one or two but they would have to be ready to compete for a starting position.”

Tryouts will take place Monday, Sept. 27 at 2 p.m. at the 49ers Softball Complex but students should get there no later than 1:45 p.m., according to a press release.

The team is looking for a pitcher, infielder and outfielder to fill out the roster.

To qualify for tryouts, students must be full-time, undergraduates and currently enrolled with a minimum of 12 semester units. They also must provide a printout of a current class schedule.

Students also must pass a physical with a Long Beach State athletic trainer in the Physical Education 1 building prior to the tryouts.
