Lee bags national player of the week honors

It was already probably safe to say that this was the most successful week of Ashley Lee’s individual volleyball career. Now, it might be an understatement.

The Long Beach State senior was named national player of the week Tuesday by both the American Volleyball Coaches Association and Collegiate Volleyball Update.

That makes Lee the first 49er since Alexis Crimes in November 2007 to be honored with the AVCA’s weekly honor. Lee is just the eighth LBSU player to win the AVCA player of the week award, and the fourth setter from The Beach.

Lee was also named Big West Conference Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week on Monday.

The 5-foot-9 La Habra Heights native posted the first quadruple-double in the nation this season with a 50-assist, 13-dig, 10-block, 10-kill effort last Saturday at UC Riverside. It was also the first time the feat had been accomplished in LBSU history.
