Baseball, tennis rained out

Both the Long Beach State baseball and women’s tennis teams were rained out Friday.

What was supposed to be the Dirtbags’ season opener and beginning of a three-game nonconference series with Cal State Fullerton at Blair Field has been rescheduled to Monday at 6:30 p.m.

LBSU and CSUF are scheduled to open the series Saturday at Fullerton’s Goodwin Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.

The Dirtbags’ new home opener will now be Sunday at 1 p.m. That game will also feature a pregame moment to honor James Wernke, a Dirtbags signee from Santa Ana College that would have been a part of the 2011 incoming class of players prior to his untimely death in 2009.

Monday’s rescheduled contest will feature a first pitch ceremony from Long Beach State’s former baseball coaches.

Meanwhile, a makeup date has not been announced between the 46th-ranked LBSU women’s tennis team and No. 60 San Diego State.

The 49ers will host UC Riverside next Friday at the Rhodes Tennis Center. The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
