Junior named to CoSIDA Academic All-District team

Junior outfielder Brennan Metzger of the Long Beach State baseball team earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors Friday for the second season in a row.

Metzger was a second-team choice, one of six outfielders selected from four conferences: the Big West, Pac-10, WAC and West Coast Conferences.

Metzger, a native of San Marcos, Calif., has played in all 43 games for the Dirtbags, starting in 42 and leads the team in doubles with 12 and stolen bases with eight in 2011. Metzger has also maintained a 3.58 cumulative GPA in Criminal Justice.

Nominees for the award must be a sophomore, junior or a senior, with a GPA over 3.3 and have played in a minimum of over 50 percent of the team’s games. Recipients are then chosen for their best balance of athletic and academic success. Metzger was recognized as a first-team selection in 2010.
