Junior infielder named to Cape Cod All-Star team

Long Beach State junior infielder Matt Duffy was chosen to represent the East Division as an All-Star for the Cape Cod League, the league announced Wednesday.

The Cape Cod League, which is a prestigious summer league that is home to some of the top collegiate baseball players in the nation, is composed of 10 teams based in Massachusetts.

Duffy ranks fourth in the league with a .328 batting average to go with a home run and 12 RBIs through 34 games in the wood-bat league as a member of the Orleans Firebirds. The infielder is coming off of a season at LBSU where he led the Dirtbags in RBIs with 31 and earned a second-team All-Big West Conference selection at second base.

The Cape Cod All-Star game will be held Friday at Fenway Park in Boston.

Duffy’s selection marks the second year in a row that the Dirtbags will have a starter in the Cape Cod All-Star Game. Fellow 2010 All-Big West selection Andrew Gagnon was named the starting pitcher for last year’s all-star game for the premier league.
