Selfie Day soothes students

Students seeking relief from the scorching heat and upcoming midterms participated in Selfie Day at the Plaza Lobby of the University Student Union.

The USU Program Council hosted the event on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in honor of self-improvement and self-awareness month.

Program council assistant and junior communications major Javier Zepeda said that this event was focused on bettering student’s sense of understanding of their own thoughts and feelings.

Counseling and Psychological Services offered its services by giving students the opportunity to take an online mental health screening.

Students at the event were indulged with free massages and snacks such as bananas and Nature Valley bars.

“The massage was my favorite part of the event. It’s just what I need, that is all I can say,” said junior theatre arts student Niña Pastores.

Beach Balance was also in attendance promoting personal well being and offering students to check their body fat percentage and learn about how to enroll into programs such as nutrition and stress management.

Lorena Gonzalez, a CSULB graduate pursuing a master’s degree in education, said that this event made her reflect on the importance of family.
“I thought about sending a card to my family because they’ve supported me through the whole endeavor of having a great education,” Gonzalez said.

Senior communication studies major Arvin Agkis and his friend, junior healthcare administration major Undre Bautista, said they enjoyed Selfie Day’s ambience.

“It’s really cool how students are brought together through these activities,” Agkis said. “You don’t normally get them but these small events count. They really take away the stress from school.”

Pastores said she looks forward to future events from ASI that brings positive vibes.

“When I first walked in and saw free food, I wanted to know what this is about,” Pastores said. “I’m trying to stay positive myself and become a better person my self so I’m definitely looking forward to showing up to these events and tell all my friends.”
