CSULB music student died Monday

A Cal State Long Beach student died in his Long Beach apartment on Monday. The cause of death is unknown pending an autopsy.

Kyle Stevens, 25, was pronounced dead by paramedics in his apartment. According to Toni Beron, assistant vice president of public affairs and publications, the senior choral vocal major told his roommates he was feeling ill, and was found “not responsive” 10 minutes after lying down.

Beron said Stevens began attending CSULB in 2005 after transferring from Mount San Antonio College. He was a member of the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music Chamber Choir, University Choir, and 49er Chorus. His family is originally from the Fresno area.

Choral students from the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music are in the process of organizing a memorial service for Stevens this Saturday at the First Congregational Church of Long Beach. The Chamber Choir, University Choir and alumni from Mt. SAC’s chamber choir will perform, according to Beron.

Stevens will be receiving his bachelor’s degree posthumously, Beron said.
