Free student services on campus

Associated Students Inc.

  • Students are encouraged to join campus organizations that accommodate their interests to make the most of campus life. Find out how to create a new student organization or search for current Cal State Long Beach clubs by their categorical listing online at csulb.edu/divisions/students/sld/campus_organizations
  • Tickets for advance screenings of major-release films are free for students with a student ID. Pick up tickets at the University Student Union Program Council Office, Suite 116. The next movie to be screened will be “Easy A” on September 7 at 7 p.m. in the USU Beach Auditorium Suite 115. Tickets will be available beginning on August 30.
  • The Associated Students Recycling Center at CSULB has been run by the Associated Students Inc. since 1970. They manage all campus recyclables and provide a convenient location for students to donate their recyclables from home. For each container less than 24 ounces, students will receive 5 cents and, for each container over 24 ounces, students will receive 10 cents. The Recycling Center is located at the northwest point of the campus at 5800 Atherton Street, across the parking lot from the Pyramid.

 

Health Services

  • All students are eligible for free coverage of most medical services with the exception of pharmaceuticals, external labs and x-ray copies. The pharmacy has a wide range of prescription and over-the-counter products for a lower cost than can be found at a retail pharmacy. Outpatient treatment of sudden or moderate illness and injury is covered. For women, annual examinations, pap tests, related lab tests and contraceptive services are available. Medical care for issues related to men’s health are covered as well. Appointments are required for the Health Center. Hours are: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

Career Development

  • The Career Development Center staff provides workshops for students to help prepare for the professional world. The workshops most popular amongst students are typically: job search for government opportunities, internships for arts majors, negotiating your job offer and salary, interviewing techniques and résumé writing for the job fair.
  • BeachLINK is an online job listing service which allows the Career Center to post thousands of job-listing opportunities for students. Through the BeachLINK system, students can also access thousands of opportunities posted nationwide on the NACElink Network, a national job board of more than 800 colleges and universities sponsored by the National Association of Colleges and Employers. International opportunities are also made available through the Going Global online program, which features world-wide job openings and internships, plus corporate profiles for key employers in 31 countries.
  • Career Center To Go is an online service which provides free workshops for students regarding topics such as finding a major that fits, using social networks to benefit a career and dressing for interview success.
  • Students can submit questions online to a CDC counselor who will provide answers or refer the students to resources that may be helpful. Their goal is to respond to a query within two business days.

 

Academic Advising

  • Visit the Horn Center, Room 103 to find the University Center for Undergraduate Advising. The center provides free meetings with students regarding general education advising, academic program planning, understanding a degree progress report, understanding university policies, information about course repeats or withdrawals and special services for incoming freshman and undeclared students. The center operates on an appointment basis with walk-ins subject to availability. Hours are: Monday–Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 5 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 4 p.m.
