Million more graduates by 2025

Academic Senate Inc. passed a resolution Wednesday to endorse the “Campaign for College Opportunity for 1 Million More Graduates by 2025.”

The Public Policy Institute of California, a nonprofit organization, estimates that, by 2025, California will have “one million fewer college-educated workers than the economy will require.”

As a result of this startling statistic, the Campaign for College Opportunity has unveiled its new campaign in hopes of changing these numbers.

Sen. Michael Quibuyen, who sponsored the resolution, said, “We want to pass this resolution quickly so that other public universities can follow suit. Once [the campaign] hits Sacramento, there will be momentum behind it.”

The resolution, though not binding, is a move to urge the Governor and the Legislature to improve and expand Cal Grants, policies regarding transfer students and student access to Pell Grants.
