Man found guilty of student’s murder

Jonathan Huynh was found guilty on Wednesday of murdering Cal State Long Beach student Kate Su Yi on April 2, 2009.

Huynh, who was arrested by Long Beach police on April 4, 2009, is expected to be sentenced on Oct. 20 for 26 years to life in state prison, according to the Long Beach Press Telegram.

Yi was a 20-year-old CSULB nursing student. According to the coroner’s office, she was found strangled to death in her apartment complex off Bellflower Boulevard after she reportedly tried to break up with Huynh.

His case was pushed back six times — his original preliminary hearing was set for June 24, 2009. Huynh pleaded not guilty to killing his girlfriend Yi in late April, the Daily 49er reported.
