More state funding for CSULB, extended deadline for transfer applications

Cal State Long Beach extended the transfer application deadline for community college students until Nov. 10.

“Because of the short period of time between the recent passage of the state budget and the beginning of spring semester, CSULB has provided unusual flexibility in admission criteria in order to allow more students to enroll for spring,” associate vice president of university relations Toni Beron said in a press release.

The budget was signed in early October. According to calstate.edu, “The recently approved 2010-11 state budget restored $199 million to the CSU and allocated an additional $60.6 million specifically for enrollment growth.”

In order to receive the funding, the entire Cal State University system needs to meet increased enrollment targets or else forfeit portions of that money, the Press-Telegram reported.

The GPA requirements for transfer students have been reduced for several impacted programs.

In order to be considered for the spring 2011 semester, prospective transfer students must complete the minimum CSU transfer requirements by the end of the fall 2010 term, Beron said.

The 2010 spring semester was closed to incoming students and, in spring 2009, Cal State Long Beach only accepted applications from graduate students, The Daily 49er reported.

Applications need to be turned in at csumentor.edu no later than Nov. 10.
